When were you established?
In 1983 as the “Southeast Minnesota Private Industry Council”

What services are offered?
WDI is a private, nonprofit agency that connects people with the resources they need to gain meaningful employment.

For individuals, our services include assessment, career planning, skills training, job search guidance and resources, and preparation for further training and education. We also offer scholarships and connections to many other great programs and resources in Southeast Minnesota. We work with every population in the region from youth to adults to dislocated workers and employers. Focus is dedicated to working with communities and individuals who face multiple barriers to meaningful and living-wage employment.

For businesses, WDI can provide recruitment assistance, local labor market information, best practices, tips for retention, staff training, and much more. We can also help employers manage the transition for dislocated employees and create opportunities for workers with disabilities across Southeast Minnesota.

What do you want people to know about your business?
WDI is here to connect people with opportunities. Our services are completely free, and we provide personalized support to help individuals navigate their career and training goals. With strong regional partnerships, we make it easy to access the right resources quickly. Whether you need job training, career guidance, or connections to other services, we’re here to help you move forward.

How many employees?
Currently 91 staff members.

What do you like about having a business in Spring Valley?
We don’t have an office in Spring Valley, but we cover all of Fillmore County! With 10 locations across Southeast Minnesota and virtual services available, we make it easy to connect—whether in person or online.

Fun fact about your business?
We currently have over 80 funding sources! Because of this, we have the flexibility to find the right solutions to say & “yes” to your needs.

Wedding/Party Rental Decor

What do you want people to know about your business?
We are a family business that specializes in wedding and party decor to be rented out for the special occasion. We have a large variety of decor from vases, candles, loveseats, arches, barrels, wood chairs, bar and much more!

What do you like about having a business in Spring Valley?
Small town atmosphere

Fun fact about your business?
After Karly rented from a company out of Wisconsin for her wedding we thought it would be an awesome service to offer in our area. We have over 20 bookings this summer.

Grand Meadow License Bureau

Spring Valley Area Chamber Business Spotlight: Grand Meadow License Bureau

When were you established?
We (Chris and Lacie) purchased the existing license bureau from Duke Baudoin in November 2020, it was originally open back in 1998

What services are offered?
We currently offer all vehicle registation & titling services, DNR (boats/ATV/snowmobile), notary service, disability services and limited drivers license like address changes and duplicates. In 2024 we will be adding PERMIT proctor testing for anyone needing to take the Class D written test and then in 2025 we are hoping to go full service drivers license and offers renewals as well.

What do you want people to know about your business?
We are privately owned, most people do not think of DMVs as being privately owned, but we are owned and operated by people in your neighborhood, people you will get to know and people who value your business. The filing fees on your transactions stay local and support a family owned business. We take pride in our customer service and strive to make the DMV experience a positive one.

How many employees?
Michelle Hinderaker is our full time title clerk and Chris and I are employees as well.

What do you like about having a business in Spring Valley?
Although we are not located right in Spring Valley we value the relationships we have with the Spring Valley residents and businesses. We try to support your community as much as you support us and are eager to add services in order to service you better.

Fun fact about your business?
Lacie and Chris are husband and wife for 15 years and work side by side every day. Lacie’s grandma, Mary Malone ran a DMV in Rochester and licensing has always been in our family. Lacie is a third generation MN Deputy Registrar in her family and happy to be located in such a supportive community.
